GE Water Softener Repair

Water Softener Repair, Done Right the First Time

A GE water softener is a resin tank, a brine tank and a control valve, and hard water coming back is nearly always the valve, the brine draw or a setting rather than dead resin.

Softener faults sort neatly. If the resin never gets recharged the symptom is hard water, and the cause is in the brine side: salt bridging, a plugged injector or venturi, an air check that has failed, or a control valve not sequencing. If the softener recharges but water tastes salty, the rinse or the drain is restricted. If it regenerates constantly, the controller settings or the meter are usually to blame.

We test the actual hardness before and after the unit, watch a regeneration cycle through its stages rather than trusting the display, and check the bypass and plumbing connections for leaks. Where the work crosses into plumbing that needs a licensed trade in your area, we say so before starting.

Why Trust Us With Your GE Water Softener

  • Tested, Not Guessed | We test the suspected water softener part before recommending that anything is replaced.
  • Parts for Popular Models | Commonly needed water softener parts travel with our technicians; less common parts are ordered and the return visit is scheduled before we leave.
  • Safety First | Power, water and gas are isolated before we work on your water softener, and high-voltage and refrigerant work is handled only by the technician.
  • Warranty-Aware Advice | If your water softener may still be under manufacturer coverage we tell you, because a repair by anyone other than an authorized technician can put that coverage at risk.
FAQ

Water Softener Repair FAQ

A full tank does not mean salt is being used. Salt can bridge into a crust with a cavity underneath, so the brine draw pulls nothing. Break up the bridge, check the brine level after a cycle, and if the softener still will not draw brine the valve, injector or air check needs service.

That points at the regeneration cycle not rinsing properly - a restricted drain line, a valve that is not sequencing, or a setting that is wrong for the tank size. It is worth dealing with promptly if anyone in the household is on a sodium-restricted diet.

Keeping the salt topped up, breaking up any bridging, checking the hardness setting against your actual water and cleaning the injector and venturi screen periodically covers most of it. The intervals are in the owner's manual for your model.
