GE Range Hood Repair

Range Hood Repair, Done Right the First Time

A GE wall-mount, under-cabinet, island or insert hood has a short parts list - blower motor, speed control, lights and dampers - and most poor-extraction complaints turn out to be airflow rather than a failed part.

Hood service divides into two things: the electrical parts and the airflow. Electrically there is a blower motor, a speed control or control board, lights and their sockets, and on newer models a link to the cooktop. Mechanically there is the filter, the ducting, the backdraft damper and the termination cap outside – and it is usually that side of things that causes the it does not extract properly complaint.

We measure what the blower is actually doing, inspect the duct route as far as it can be seen, check the damper, and only then look at the motor and control. If the hood is part of a downdraft or island installation, the duct run and the damper get extra attention because those installations are far less forgiving of restriction.

Aluminium mesh grease filters can normally go through the dishwasher and are worth cleaning monthly with regular cooking. Charcoal filters in recirculating installations are not washable and are replaced on the schedule in the owner's manual for your model.

Often yes, using the conversion kit listed for that model. Whether it is practical depends on the cabinet, the duct route and the roof or wall termination, so we look at the actual installation before advising.
