Room air conditioners are self-contained systems, so a no-cooling complaint has a short and orderly diagnostic path: airflow first (filter, coil, fan and any obstruction), then the electrical controls (thermostat or sensor, control board, capacitor and compressor relay), then the sealed system. We follow that order because most calls are resolved well before the last step.

We also check the installation itself. A window unit tilted the wrong way drains into the room, and an undersized or oversized unit for the room will short-cycle or never dehumidify properly. Where the fault is in the sealed system, the work is done only by a technician licensed for refrigerant, and on inexpensive units we will tell you when replacement is the sensible answer.

Check the mode and temperature setting first, then the filter - a clogged filter starves the coil and is the single most common cause. Make sure the outdoor side is not blocked by furniture, a screen or plants. If the filter is clean, the mode is right and it still blows warm, the compressor circuit or the sealed system needs testing.

Restricted airflow, a low charge or running the unit in air that is too cool for it will all frost the coil. Switch it to fan-only to melt the ice and keep the room ventilated, then have it checked - repeated icing is a symptom, not the fault itself.

The filter, the drain path and the installation fit are yours. Anything involving refrigerant is regulated by law, needs a technician licensed to handle it, and cannot be topped up safely from a store-bought can without finding why the charge dropped in the first place.
