What PF Means
PF on a GE refrigerator display means power to the refrigerator was interrupted. GE lists it as a normal notification rather than a fault: the control noticed the outage and is telling you the cabinet may have warmed while the power was off. It stays on the display until you acknowledge it.
Common Causes of PF
- Utility outage or a tripped breaker
- Refrigerator unplugged or a loose plug at the outlet
- Outlet or house wiring fault causing brief dropouts
- Control board not holding its power-loss flag correctly
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clear the alert with the button your model uses (often the same pad that sets temperature, or holding the alarm/reset pad - the owner's manual for your model names it). Before you do, check food with a thermometer, because that is the part the code is actually warning you about. If PF returns when there has been no outage, note how often it happens and mention it when you book service; that pattern points to a supply or connection problem rather than a refrigerator fault.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None - clearing the alert and checking food are routine owner steps.
- If PF keeps appearing with no outage, the outlet and supply need testing with a meter, which is electrician or technician work.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
