What LEAK DETECTED Means

Leak Detected means the dishwasher's leak-detection system has sensed water where it should not be. On models with that feature GE cancels the cycle and advises contacting service. Treat it as a genuine warning: the point of the sensor is to stop a slow leak before it reaches the floor, the cabinet or the floor covering underneath.

Common Causes of LEAK DETECTED

  • Door seal or tub seal leaking
  • Loose or failing water inlet connection
  • Cracked sump, hose or pump seal
  • Overfill caused by an inlet valve that does not close
  • Failed leak sensor or wet sensor connector reporting falsely

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Stop the cycle and close the dishwasher's water shut-off valve, usually under the sink. Look for water under the front edge of the machine and in the cabinet next to it, and dry what you find so you can tell whether it returns. Do not restart the cycle to see if it goes away - if the sensor is right, every restart adds more water. Book service and leave the supply off until then.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Finding the source means running the machine while watching underneath it, next to live wiring and a pressurised water line.
  • A leak that has already wet the control area can make the dishwasher unsafe to power up until it is checked.
  • Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

LEAK DETECTED FAQ

It can be - a wet sensor or connector will report a leak. But the safe order is supply off, service booked, then let the technician prove it was false.

Not advisable. If the leak is real you risk water damage to cabinets and flooring, which is far more expensive than the repair.
