Compactors are simple machines with one dangerous part: a powered ram. Almost every no-compaction call is either the door interlock not being made or the drive itself, and the interlock is the cheaper and more common of the two.
Never reach into the compactor cabinet. Turn off the breaker before looking at anything beyond the drawer, and leave the ram, the drive screws and the motor to a technician. Owners can safely keep the drawer runners clean and avoid overfilling, which is what jams these.
