Cooktops fail in more predictable ways than most appliances, which makes the diagnosis fast. On radiant models it is normally the element itself, the infinite switch behind the knob, or a control board on touch-control versions. On gas models it is the electrode, the switch in the valve or the spark module. On induction it is usually a power board or a cooling fan, and an induction fault code needs the service literature for that platform to read properly.

We also check the obvious installation issues that mimic faults: a cooktop clamped too tightly against the countertop, blocked ventilation under a downdraft model, or a supply issue that only shows when several zones run together. Cracked glass is quoted as a part-availability question first, because on older models the replacement top may no longer be made.
