What 999 Means
999 means different things depending on the model, and GE says so plainly: on models with the Floor Protect with Alert feature it indicates a possible leak and service should be contacted; on all other models it means the control needs to be reset. Because one branch of that is a leak warning, it is worth treating as the more serious case until you know which model you have.
Common Causes of 999
- Leak detected on models with Floor Protect with Alert
- Control fault requiring a power reset on other models
- Moisture in a sensor connector
- Power interruption leaving the control in a fault state
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check your model's features first - if it has Floor Protect with Alert, close the dishwasher's water shut-off valve and book service without restarting the cycle. If it does not, reset the control: switch the dishwasher's breaker off for about 30 seconds, restore power, then select a cycle and start. If 999 returns after a reset on a non-Floor-Protect model, stop resetting and have it diagnosed.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None for the one power reset or for closing the water valve.
- If it is the leak branch, tracing the water needs the machine run with panels off next to live wiring.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
