What F33 Means
F33 is a door switch error. This code belongs to GE's LCD-display dishwasher controls (the PDT/PDP-style panels that spell out F-numbers), not to the older C1-C8 panels. The control relies on that switch to know the door is shut - it will not run a cycle if the door may be open, so an unreliable switch stops the dishwasher even when the door is physically closed.
Common Causes of F33
- Item in the rack preventing the door closing fully
- Worn or misaligned door latch
- Failed door switch
- Damaged switch wiring in the door area
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open and firmly close the door, making sure the latch engages and nothing in the racks is stopping it - a tall item or a handle poking past the rack edge is a common culprit. Wipe the latch area. Then do one power reset, breaker off 30 seconds. If F33 returns with the door latching cleanly, the switch or its harness needs replacing.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The switch is behind the control panel or in the latch assembly, and the door harness there is easy to pinch or break.
- Defeating or bypassing a door switch removes the interlock that stops the dishwasher spraying with the door open - never a DIY shortcut.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
