What FE Means
FE means water reached a critical level in the washer. GE's own remedy is blunt: turn off the water and the power, and call for service immediately. The washer is telling you it is taking on more water than it can control, which is an overflow risk rather than a wash-quality problem.
Common Causes of FE
- Water inlet valve stuck open
- Pressure sensor or level sensor failure
- Blocked or disconnected pressure hose
- Control board not closing the fill valve
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close both hot and cold taps at the washer hookup and switch the washer off at the breaker or unplug it - in that order, water first. Do not restart the cycle to see whether it clears. If water has already reached the floor, deal with that before anything else and keep the supply closed until a technician has been. Booking service promptly is the right response to FE.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- An inlet valve that will not close is an active flooding risk and needs the supply isolated and the valve tested before the machine is powered again.
- The valve and sensor circuits are at line voltage inside the cabinet, in a machine that currently has too much water in it.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
