What CAnCELEd Means
CAnCELEd appears when the machine was paused for longer than 24 hours, or when the cycle was stopped because of errors. GE publishes this as part of the Consumer Help Indicator set on 2017 and newer electronic-control washers - messages meant for owners to act on, not technician fault codes. GE's instruction is to wait out the four-minute lockout and contact service if it keeps happening.
Common Causes of CAnCELEd
- Cycle paused or lid left open for over 24 hours
- Power interruption part-way through a cycle
- Washer stopping itself because of another fault
- Control board fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Wait the four minutes GE specifies - the control uses that window to drain safely - then select your cycle and start again. If there is water in the basket, run Drain & Spin first. If CAnCELEd keeps appearing on cycles you never paused, that points to the washer stopping itself on a fault, and the pattern is worth reporting when you book service.

- None - waiting the lockout and restarting are owner steps.
- If the washer is cancelling cycles on its own, the underlying fault is inside the cabinet and needs diagnosis rather than repeated restarts.
