What E30 Means

E30 means the washer did not drain. This belongs to the E-code set on GE front-load washers (the GFW-style machines); the same letters and numbers mean different things on GE top-load machines and on the older GE Profile front-load platform. The pump either did not run or could not move the water, and the control stops rather than continuing with a full drum.

Common Causes of E30

  • Pump filter blocked with lint and debris
  • Foreign object jamming the pump impeller
  • Kinked drain hose, or a blocked standpipe or house drain
  • Failed drain pump
  • Control or wiring fault to the pump

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Switch the washer off and drain it at the pump filter behind the lower access door - have a shallow tray and towels ready, and follow your model's drain-hose-first procedure. Clean the filter, check the housing for coins, hair clips and stray socks, and refit it firmly. Check the drain hose for kinks and that it is not pushed too deep into the standpipe. Then restart with a Drain & Spin.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None for the pump filter and drain hose checks - GE designs those for owners.
  • Pump replacement means tipping or opening a machine holding water, with the pump wiring live when powered.
  • Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Not while the drum holds water - the door stays locked for good reason. Drain at the pump filter first.

Often several litres on a front-loader, so use a shallow tray and empty it as you go.
