What E43 Means
E43 points at the inverter control board - the electronics that drive the wash motor at variable speed. This belongs to the E-code set on GE front-load washers (the GFW-style machines); the same letters and numbers mean different things on GE top-load machines and on the older GE Profile front-load platform. With the inverter faulted the drum cannot be driven properly, so cycles stall or refuse to spin.
Common Causes of E43
- Failed inverter board
- Motor fault overloading the inverter
- Harness fault between inverter and motor
- Power surge damage
- Moisture or leak damage to the board
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
One power reset is reasonable: unplug the washer or switch its breaker off for a minute, restore power, and run a short cycle. That is the limit of owner-level work on this one. If E43 returns, the inverter needs testing and replacing by someone with the service data - it is not a part to buy on a guess, because a motor fault can present the same way.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The inverter carries mains voltage and holds charge in its capacitors after the power is off.
- Swapping the inverter without checking the motor can destroy the new board the same way.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
