What E57 / E58 Means
E57 and E58 point at a main control board failure. This belongs to the E-code set on GE front-load washers (the GFW-style machines); the same code string means something different on GE top-load machines and on the older GE Profile front-load platform. The board that coordinates the whole cycle is reporting an internal fault, so behaviour can be erratic - cycles that stop, functions that do not respond, or a machine that will not start.

- Harness fault confusing the board
- Failed component elsewhere loading the board
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
One power reset is reasonable: unplug the washer or switch its breaker off for a minute, restore power and run a short cycle. If the code returns, stop there. A control board is an expensive part and a fault elsewhere can present the same way, so a diagnosis before parts is the sensible order. Note down exactly what the machine does and at what point in the cycle - that information saves time on the visit.

- The board is at line voltage behind the top or front panel.
- Boards are static-sensitive and often need configuring after replacement - the wrong handling ruins a new one.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
