What 11 Means

Code 11 means the control did not see a 60 Hz supply. These numeric codes come from the GTW-series GE top-load washer chart - the impeller and agitator top-loaders with a locking lid. They are read out of the control in a service mode, so the same number means something different on GE front-load machines. In North America that usually points at the supply itself - a generator, an inverter supply, or a poor-quality circuit - rather than at the washer.

Common Causes of 11

  • Running on a generator or inverter supply
  • Long or undersized extension lead
  • Poor-quality or overloaded circuit
  • Failed control board supply-sensing circuit

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Check what the washer is plugged into: a generator, a portable inverter or a long extension lead can all produce a supply the control rejects. Plug directly into a properly rated wall outlet on its own circuit. One power reset is reasonable: unplug the washer or switch its breaker off for a minute, then restore power and run a short cycle. If code 11 persists on a normal household outlet, the supply needs checking by an electrician and the control by a technician.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None for checking the outlet and removing extension leads.
  • Supply frequency and quality testing is electrician work; sensing-circuit faults are technician work.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

11 FAQ

Very likely. Many generators and inverters do not produce the stable waveform appliance controls expect, and this is exactly how that shows up.

Manufacturers ask for a direct connection to a properly rated outlet, and long leads are a common cause of supply complaints.
