What 19 Means
Code 19 records the washer being paused for more than 24 hours, or water left standing in the tub. These numeric codes come from the GTW-series GE top-load washer chart - the impeller and agitator top-loaders with a locking lid. They are read out of the control in a service mode, so the same number means something different on GE front-load machines. It is a state the machine noticed rather than a broken part - but standing water left for days does start to smell and can stain fabrics.
Common Causes of 19
- Cycle paused or lid left open and forgotten
- Power interruption part-way through a cycle
- Washer stopping itself on another fault
- Slow drain leaving water behind
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Run a Drain & Spin to empty the tub, then run a rinse or a tub-clean cycle if the water has been sitting. Take the load out promptly afterwards. If the machine keeps ending up paused with water in it and nobody paused it, that suggests it is stopping on another fault, which is worth reporting.

- None - draining and re-running a cycle are routine.
- If the washer is pausing on its own, the underlying fault needs diagnosis rather than repeated restarts.
