What 006 Means
006 means a button on the control panel is reading as pressed when it is not. These numeric codes come from the GFD-series GE dryer chart and are read out of the control rather than shown during a normal cycle, so the same number means something different on GE washers. Moisture or residue behind the panel is the usual explanation, and the dryer may refuse new selections until it clears.
Common Causes of 006
- Moisture behind the panel membrane
- Residue or grit under a button
- Worn membrane or panel
- Interface board failure
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Dry the console with a soft cloth, including the edges of the buttons, and do not spray cleaner at the panel. If the room has been steamy, let it air. Then switch the breaker off for a minute and back on. If 006 returns with a dry panel, the touch panel or interface board is the fault.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None for drying and wiping the panel.
- Panel replacement means the console opened with control wiring attached.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
