What 008 / 00d Means
008 and 00d record five cycles run without the door switch ever opening - the control is questioning whether the switch still works. These numeric codes come from the GFD-series GE dryer chart and are read out of the control rather than shown during a normal cycle, so the same number means something different on GE washers. It is a plausibility check rather than a failure, though a genuinely stuck switch does eventually stop the dryer starting.
Common Causes of 008 / 00d
- Five cycles genuinely run without opening the door
- Lint or debris around the switch plunger
- Worn or sticking door switch
- Door strike misaligned
- Switch wiring fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open the door fully and close it again a few times, and check the switch plunger area in the door frame is clean and not clogged with lint. Then start a normal cycle. If the code keeps being stored, or the dryer will not start with the door clearly closed, the door switch needs replacing.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None for cleaning around the switch and cycling the door.
- Switch replacement means the front panel or door frame opened next to the control wiring.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
