What F96 Means
F96 means the control concluded there is no water in the tub, based on turbidity readings. This code belongs to GE's LCD-display dishwasher controls (the panels that spell out F-numbers), not the older C1-C8 panels. It is the fill side being reported by a different route from the level sensor - and like F65, it stops the cycle rather than running the pump dry.
Common Causes of F96
- Supply valve closed or restricted
- Clogged inlet screen or kinked fill line
- Failed water inlet valve
- Float stuck in the raised position
- Turbidity or level sensor fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check the supply valve under the sink is fully open, look for kinks in the inlet line, and run the kitchen tap to confirm normal pressure. Clean the filter. One power reset is the owner-level step: switch the dishwasher's breaker off for about 30 seconds, restore power and run a short cycle. If the tub still does not fill, the inlet valve or sensing circuit needs service.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The inlet valve is behind the lower panel with the water line attached and line voltage present.
- A stuck float and a failed valve look identical from the front - the difference is found with a meter and a pressure check.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
