What 15 Means
Code 15 reports a thermistor - temperature sensor - failure. These numeric codes come from the GTW-series GE top-load washer chart - the impeller and agitator top-loaders with a locking lid. They are read out of the control in a service mode, so the same number means something different on GE front-load machines. The washer uses that reading to blend hot and cold water, so selected wash temperatures become unreliable.
Common Causes of 15
- Failed thermistor
- Damaged or corroded sensor wiring
- Moisture in the sensor connector
- Hot supply closed or not connected
- Control input fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check both taps are open and that hot water actually reaches the nearest sink; a washer with no hot supply cannot hit its temperatures whatever the sensor says. One power reset is reasonable: unplug the washer or switch its breaker off for a minute, then restore power and run a short cycle. If code 15 returns with a good hot supply, the sensor or its wiring needs service.

- The sensor is inside the cabinet next to line-voltage connections.
- Thermistors have to be measured against a known temperature to be confirmed.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
