What 30 Means

Code 30 means a key on the control panel is reading as pressed when nobody is touching it. These numeric codes come from the GTW-series GE top-load washer chart - the impeller and agitator top-loaders with a locking lid. They are read out of the control in a service mode, so the same number means something different on GE front-load machines. It is normally moisture or residue behind the panel rather than a failed board, and it can stop the washer accepting new selections.

Common Causes of 30

  • Moisture or cleaning spray behind the panel
  • Residue or grit under a button
  • Worn membrane or panel
  • Interface board failure

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Dry the console with a soft cloth, including around the button edges, and avoid spraying cleaner at it. Let a steamy laundry room air out. One power reset is reasonable: unplug the washer or switch its breaker off for a minute, then restore power and run a short cycle. If code 30 returns with a dry panel, the touch panel or interface board needs replacing.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None for drying and wiping the panel.
  • Panel replacement means the console opened with the control wiring attached.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
