What E11-E13 / E28 Means
These codes report a door lock assembly problem on this platform. This code belongs to the older GE Profile front-load washer platform - broadly the machines sold through the 2000s and early 2010s, most of which are long out of warranty. The same code string means something different on the newer GE front-load E-code set and on GE top-load machines. A front-loader will not start without a confirmed locked door, and a failing lock can also leave the door shut with the load inside.
Common Causes of E11-E13 / E28
- Laundry caught in the seal preventing a clean latch
- Worn or broken door lock
- Door or hinge misalignment
- Damaged lock wiring
- Control output fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check nothing is caught in the door seal and that the door closes cleanly, then wipe the latch and strike plate. One power reset is worth trying: unplug the washer or switch its breaker off for a minute, then restore power and run a short cycle. If the door is stuck with water inside, drain at the pump filter with the power off, wait a few minutes and try again. If the codes persist, the lock needs replacing.

- The lock is a safety interlock - bypassing it allows the drum to spin with the door unsecured.
- Replacement means the door boot clamp off and work next to line-voltage wiring.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
