What E22 Means
E22 means the washer did not fill, or filled too slowly for the control's liking. This belongs to the E-code set on GE front-load washers (the GFW-style machines); the same letters and numbers mean different things on GE top-load machines and on the older GE Profile front-load platform. It is a supply-side code before it is an appliance fault, which is why the taps, hoses and inlet screens come first.
Common Causes of E22
- Taps closed or partly closed
- Clogged inlet screens at the washer
- Kinked fill hose or frozen supply line
- Low household water pressure
- Failed water inlet valve
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check both taps at the hookup are fully open and the fill hoses are not kinked behind the machine. Close the taps, unscrew the hoses at the washer end and check the inlet screens for grit and scale - clogged screens are the most common cause. Refit, open the taps, watch for drips, then restart. If both screens are clear and pressure at a nearby tap is normal, the inlet valve or level sensing needs service.
