What E8 Means
E8 reports a drain problem on this platform. This code belongs to the older GE Profile front-load washer platform - broadly the machines sold through the 2000s and early 2010s, most of which are long out of warranty. The same code string means something different on the newer GE front-load E-code set and on GE top-load machines. Water is not leaving the machine the way the control expects, which stops the cycle before the spin.
Common Causes of E8
- Blocked pump filter or debris in the pump
- Kinked drain hose or blocked standpipe
- Failed drain pump
- Wiring or control fault to the pump
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch off and drain at the pump filter behind the lower access panel, using a tray and towels. Clean the filter and check the housing for coins and debris. Straighten the drain hose, check it is not pushed too far down the standpipe, and test how fast the standpipe itself drains. Restart with a Drain & Spin.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None for the pump filter and drain hose.
- Pump replacement means moving and opening a machine holding water.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
