What CC Means
CC asks you to check the temperature controls because the refrigerator compartment temperature is not what the control expects. GE lists it among its most common refrigerator codes. It can follow a setting that was changed or knocked, but it also appears when the compartment genuinely cannot reach its set point.
Common Causes of CC
- Temperature settings changed accidentally, or set outside the normal range
- Air vents inside blocked by packed-in food
- Dirty condenser coil or a condenser fan not running
- Failed thermistor reporting the wrong compartment temperature
- Damper or airflow control fault between compartments
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Look at the set temperatures on the display first and put them back to the normal range - around 37F for the refrigerator and 0F for the freezer - then confirm with an appliance thermometer over the next several hours rather than trusting the display. Check that the doors close fully, that vents inside are not blocked by packages, and that the condenser coil area is not packed with dust or pet hair. If the compartment still will not hold its setting, or CC returns after the settings are correct, book a diagnosis.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Thermistor and damper testing needs a meter on live circuits behind interior panels and the rear cover.
- A compartment that will not hold temperature can be airflow, defrost or sealed system - the code does not separate them, so parts bought on a guess are usually wasted.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
