What F35 Means

F35 is a diverter feedback error. This code belongs to GE's LCD-display dishwasher controls (the PDT/PDP-style panels that spell out F-numbers), not to the older C1-C8 panels. The diverter is the valve that sends wash water to the upper rack, lower rack or a targeted zone; the control expected confirmation that it moved and did not get it. Wash results usually suffer because water is not reaching every rack as intended.

Common Causes of F35

  • Debris jamming the diverter
  • Failed diverter motor
  • Position sensor or microswitch fault
  • Harness fault between diverter and control
  • Control board output failure

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Remove the lower rack, lift out the filter and check the sump area for glass, seeds or a fruit sticker that could be blocking the diverter, using a torch and keeping fingers clear of sharp debris. Refit the filter, then do one power reset. If F35 stays, the diverter motor or its position sensor is the likely fault and needs service.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • The diverter assembly is inside the sump under the tub and involves both water and line-voltage connections.
  • Dismantling the sump without the right seals and torque is a common route to a leak that was not there before.
  • Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F35 FAQ

It fits - a diverter stuck away from the upper-rack position leaves the top rack under-washed while the bottom looks fine.

A tub cleaner will not move a mechanical jam or replace a sensor. It is worth clearing debris, but not a substitute for the diagnosis.
