Sensor bars inside the drum read moisture, and softener residue on them makes a dryer think the load is dry when it is not. Wiping the sensor bars with a little white vinegar on a cloth is genuine owner maintenance and fixes a lot of early cut-offs.
For anything electrical, unplug the dryer first. A cracked element gives intermittent heat and needs testing; that is a technician job on a 240V appliance, along with belt, roller and bearing work.
