What Lid Locked Indicator Means
GE documents a lid or lid-locked indicator that comes on when three cycles have been started without the lid ever being opened. GE publishes this as part of the Consumer Help Indicator set on 2017 and newer electronic-control washers - messages meant for owners to act on, not technician fault codes. It is a sanity check on the lid switch, not a fault in the wash system - the control wants to confirm the lid really does open and close.
Common Causes of Lid Locked Indicator
- Three cycles run back to back without opening the lid
- Lid switch not registering the lid opening
- Worn latch or misaligned lid
- Wiring fault to the lid switch
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open the lid fully, close it again and start a new cycle. That is GE's own remedy. If the indicator keeps coming back after the lid has been opened and closed, the lid switch is not reporting reliably and needs service - which also explains cycles that stall before the spin.
