What E71 Means
E71 reports a defective main control board. This belongs to the E-code set on GE front-load washers (the GFW-style machines); the same code string means something different on GE top-load machines and on the older GE Profile front-load platform. It is the same family as E57 and E58 - the control reporting its own fault - and the symptoms are usually erratic behaviour or a machine that will not start a cycle.

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
One power reset is reasonable: unplug the washer or switch its breaker off for a minute, restore power and run a short cycle. If the code comes back, note exactly what the washer does and when, then book a diagnosis. Buying a board on the strength of a code alone is the most common expensive mistake with this fault, because other faults can present the same way.

- The board is at line voltage and static-sensitive, and many need configuring to the model after replacement.
- A diagnosis often finds a cheaper part behind the same code.
