What F9 / FC Means
GE documents F9 and FC as a component failure somewhere in the door lock circuit. GE publishes this among its range and wall oven codes for models with electronic oven controls, and states that a trained service technician should diagnose an F-code rather than the owner. That circuit is what locks the oven door for self-clean; a fault in it can leave the door locked, refuse to lock at all, or stop the oven heating.

- Failed door lock motor or assembly
- Door lock switch not reporting position
- Damaged wiring to the lock
- Control board output fault
- Door or hinge misalignment
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Let the oven cool before doing anything - self-clean and runaway-temperature faults leave the cavity and door far hotter than a normal bake. GE's own first step is to switch off the circuit breaker or fuse feeding the range for a minute or two, then restore power. If the code clears and stays away, it was a one-off; if it returns, it is reporting a real fault. If the door is locked shut, give it time: many ovens release once the cavity has cooled below the safety threshold, which can take an hour or more. Never lever a locked oven door - the mechanism and the hinges are stronger than the trim, and forcing it usually adds damage to the repair.

- A range runs on a 240 V circuit and the control, keypanel and door-lock wiring all sit behind the console at that voltage.
- Forcing a locked oven door is the most reliable way to turn a lock repair into a door and hinge repair.
