What FD Means
GE documents FD as the meat probe or its receptacle possibly needing replacement. GE publishes this among its range and wall oven codes for models with electronic oven controls, and states that a trained service technician should diagnose an F-code rather than the owner. It is a convenience feature rather than a cooking essential, so an FD code does not usually stop you using the oven.
Common Causes of FD
- Failed meat probe
- Damaged or dirty probe receptacle
- Probe not fully seated
- Probe cable damaged by heat or kinking
- Control input fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the probe from the cavity receptacle and inspect the plug and socket for bent pins, food debris or corrosion; clean the plug gently if it is dirty, and never put the probe in the dishwasher unless your manual allows it. Try the probe fully seated in the receptacle, or run a cycle without the probe at all. GE's own first step is to switch off the circuit breaker or fuse feeding the range for a minute or two, then restore power. If the code clears and stays away, it was a one-off; if it returns, it is reporting a real fault.

- The receptacle is wired behind the cavity wall, which needs the range moved and panels off.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
