What ERR Means

ERR means an invalid entry was made while setting the oven controls. GE publishes this among its range and wall oven displays for models with electronic oven controls. It is the control saying it did not understand the sequence - for example a temperature outside the allowed range, or pads pressed out of order - rather than reporting a fault.

Common Causes of ERR

  • Temperature or time entered outside the allowed range
  • Pads pressed out of sequence
  • Timed-bake settings entered incompletely
  • Keypanel registering presses incorrectly

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Press CLEAR/OFF or CANCEL and enter the settings again, following the order in your manual: function first, then temperature, then start. If ERR appears whatever you enter, or pads seem to register on their own, the keypanel may be at fault - that is when it becomes an F0/F1/F6/F7-type problem rather than a typing mistake.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None - re-entering the settings is the whole remedy.
  • A keypanel that produces ERR regardless of input needs replacing, which is behind-the-console work at 240 V.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

ERR FAQ

It varies by model - your manual gives the minimum and maximum, and entering outside it is a common cause of ERR.

Timed bake needs both a cook time and a temperature; missing one of them is exactly the kind of incomplete entry the control rejects.
