What F0, F1, F6, F7 Means
GE documents F0, F1, F6 and F7 as the same thing on ranges with electronic oven controls: a problem with the keypanel, which often means the keypanel needs to be replaced. GE publishes this among its range and wall oven codes for models with electronic oven controls, and states that a trained service technician should diagnose an F-code rather than the owner. They are kept together here because GE gives them one meaning rather than four. Typical symptoms are buttons that do not respond, a beep that will not stop, or an oven that starts on its own.

- Failed keypanel or membrane
- Moisture, grease or cleaner behind the panel
- Damaged ribbon connector between keypanel and control
- Failed electronic control board
- Heat damage to the panel from spills or self-clean
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
GE's own first step is to switch off the circuit breaker or fuse feeding the range for a minute or two, then restore power. If the code clears and stays away, it was a one-off; if it returns, it is reporting a real fault. Wipe the keypanel dry and clear any spill or grease from around the buttons - moisture and residue behind the membrane cause stuck-key faults. If the code returns, or the oven turns on by itself, switch the breaker off and leave it off until it has been looked at: an oven that can heat without being asked is not something to leave powered.

- A range runs on a 240 V circuit and the control, keypanel and door-lock wiring all sit behind the console at that voltage.
- Keypanel and control faults present identically from the front, so a panel bought on the strength of the code alone is often the wrong part.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
