What LOC Means

LOC means the child lockout feature is on. GE publishes this among its range and wall oven displays for models with electronic oven controls. It is a setting, not a fault: the keypanel is deliberately disabled so the oven cannot be started accidentally. GE's guidance is simply to disable it to operate the oven.

Common Causes of LOC

  • Control lockout switched on deliberately
  • Lock pad held down accidentally during cleaning
  • Lockout left on after a previous user enabled it

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Hold the lock pad - often marked with a padlock, or the 9 pad on some models - for a few seconds until LOC clears; your model's manual names the exact pad and duration. If the display shows Loc Door or Unlock Door instead, that is the self-clean door lock rather than the keypad lockout, and it is a different situation.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None - this is a user setting.
  • If the lockout will not clear with the documented pad, the keypanel may be faulty, which is technician territory.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

LOC FAQ

No. LOC disables the keypad. A locked door shows as Loc Door or Unlock Door, and relates to self-clean.

On most ranges it affects the oven controls; surface elements with their own knobs keep working.
