What F98 Means
F98 means the sump is not draining, concluded from the turbidity readings not changing as the machine pumps out. This code belongs to GE's LCD-display dishwasher controls (the panels that spell out F-numbers), not the older C1-C8 panels. It is the same family of problem as GE's C1/C2/C3 and FTD displays: water is not leaving the tub as it should.
Common Causes of F98
- Blocked filter or sump outlet
- Restricted air gap, disposer inlet or drain hose
- Drain pump jammed or failed
- Missing high loop letting water siphon back
- Turbidity sensor fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the dishwasher off and bail out standing water. Lift the filter, rinse it and check the sump for glass, labels or stickers across the outlet. Clear the air gap if you have one, run the disposer, and check the drain hose for kinks and a proper high loop. Run a rinse cycle to confirm it empties. If F98 returns with a clear drain path, book service.

- Pump access means disconnecting power and water and moving a machine with water still in it.
- Dismantling the sump without the correct seals is the usual way a drainage fault becomes a leak.
