What E66 / E67 Means
E66 and E67 mean the water temperature sensor is defective. This belongs to the E-code set on GE front-load washers (the GFW-style machines); the same code string means something different on GE top-load machines and on the older GE Profile front-load platform. The washer uses that reading to blend hot and cold and to manage heated cycles, so wash temperatures become unreliable while it is faulted.
Common Causes of E66 / E67
- Failed temperature sensor (thermistor)
- Damaged or corroded sensor wiring
- Moisture in the sensor connector
- Hot supply not connected or not hot
- Control board input fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
One power reset is reasonable: unplug the washer or switch its breaker off for a minute, restore power and run a short cycle. Check that both taps are open and that the hot supply is actually hot at the nearest sink - a washer fed only cold water will never reach expected temperatures. If the supply is fine and the code returns, the sensor or its wiring needs service.

- The sensor is on the tub or heater assembly inside the cabinet, alongside line-voltage connections.
- A thermistor must be measured against a known temperature to be confirmed - guessing leads to replacing the wrong part.
- Damage caused during a repair attempt may not be covered - check your warranty terms first.
