What E70 Means
E70 means a key on the control panel is reading as pressed when it is not. This belongs to the E-code set on GE front-load washers (the GFW-style machines); the same code string means something different on GE top-load machines and on the older GE Profile front-load platform. It is usually moisture or residue behind the panel rather than a failed board, and the machine may refuse new selections until it clears.

- Moisture or cleaning spray behind the panel membrane
- Residue or grit under a button
- Worn membrane or touch panel
- User interface board failure
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Wipe the panel dry with a soft cloth, including around the edges of the buttons, and avoid spraying cleaner at the panel. Let a steamy laundry room air out. One power reset is reasonable: unplug the washer or switch its breaker off for a minute, restore power and run a short cycle. If E70 returns with a dry panel, the touch panel or user interface board needs replacing.
